Place-Based Assessments

Creating Sustainable Spaces

The problem: Many physical settings are not optimised for people and/or the planet. Our homes, gardens, workplaces, public spaces, transport infrastructure, cityscapes and natural landscapes have suffered from a lack of holistic understanding of how to cultivate sustainable environments and spaces.

The solution: At Repsychable, we offer place-based assessments to help you design, refine and maintain sustainable spaces that support the well-being of both people and the planet. Our team combines scientific knowledge from environmental psychology with practical expertise to guide you in cultivating sustainable, psychologically supportive environments (both built and natural).

How we can help?

Understanding how people interact with their built and natural surroundings is key to creating optimal environments. Our immersive place-based assessments uncover the user experience of these spaces to inform design and implementation decisions that align with human needs and behaviours. Each project is built around your research aim but our toolkit draws on methods such as:

  • On site observations
  • Walk-along immersive interviews
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Focus groups and workshops
  • Other bespoke methodologies

These approaches help us gain an understanding of how a user or potential user perceives the space, how they feel when they are in it, how they use the space and, crucially, what they think would create the optimal experience.

Delivering Impact

Whether you’re planning a new development, redesigning an existing space or cultivating a new natural environment, our place-based assessments provide comprehensive guidance to ensure your environment promotes health and sustainability from a user perspective.

TESTIMONIAL

“Christine has managed two projects for us relating to a merger of two Credit Unions. These brands have unique geographical bond areas and branch networks and it is important the new brand fits their starting points. Christine carried out a place-based assessment involving a cultural audit of various credit union branches and member and non-member focus groups. Over a number of days she carried out observations to understand how the physical space of each branch conveyed the essence of the brand. In the focus groups she explored how users experienced the spaces. This research has been instrumental in helping us understand how to create a merged brand identity and branch feel which will be sustainable for the future”.
